Marinade
  • 1 cup buttermilk for soaking
  • 2 teaspoons hot sauce
  • a pinch salt
Coating
  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • to taste spices (paprika, cayenne, garlic powder) adjust according to spice preference
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs for extra crispiness
Frying
  • as needed vegetable oil for frying
  • to serve lemon wedges for garnish

Method
 

Prepare the Shrimp
  1. Peel and devein the shrimp, ensuring they are clean and dry.
Create the Marinade
  1. Mix buttermilk, hot sauce, and salt in a bowl.
Coat the Shrimp
  1. Add shrimp to the marinade and soak for at least 30 minutes.
Mix the Coating
  1. Combine cornmeal, flour, and spices in a separate dish.
Fry to Perfection
  1. Heat oil in a deep skillet to 350°F and fry shrimp in batches for 3-4 minutes until golden brown.
Serve and Enjoy
  1. Remove shrimp from oil, drain on paper towels, and serve immediately with dipping sauce.
