  • 1 lb Ground beef or lamb Feel free to use ground turkey for a leaner option.
  • 1 medium onion Diced; shallots can be a great alternative.
  • 2 medium carrots Diced; substitute with parsnips if desired.
  • 1 cup frozen peas Fresh peas can be used instead.
Topping
  • 4 cups mashed potatoes Instant mashed potatoes can be used for a quicker option.
  • 1 cup beef broth Vegetable broth can be used for a lighter option.
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce Soy sauce can be used for an umami boost.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and grease a baking dish.
  2. Sauté the diced onions in oil over medium heat until translucent, about 5 minutes.
  3. Brown the ground meat until fully cooked, stirring often for about 8–10 minutes; season with salt and pepper.
  4. Add the diced carrots and frozen peas; cook until tender, about 5 minutes.
  5. Pour in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce; let it simmer for around 5 minutes until slightly thickened.
  6. Transfer the meat mixture into the greased baking dish and spread the mashed potatoes evenly on top.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and bubbling.
