Ingredients
Method
Prepare the Pears
- Peel, core, and chop the pears into small pieces. This helps them cook down faster and ensures a smoother texture.
- In a large pot, combine the chopped pears, water, lemon juice, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger.
Cook the Pears
- Place the pot over medium heat. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking and ensure even cooking.
- Once the mixture starts to bubble, reduce the heat to low and cover the pot. Allow the pears to simmer for about 1.5 hours, stirring occasionally.
Blend the Mixture
- After the pears have softened and broken down, remove the pot from heat. Use an immersion blender to puree the mixture until smooth. If you don't have an immersion blender, carefully transfer the mixture to a regular blender in batches.
- Return the blended mixture to the pot.
Final Cooking
- Cook the pureed pear mixture over low heat for an additional 30 minutes, stirring frequently. This helps to thicken the butter and develop the flavors.
- Taste and adjust the sweetness or spices as desired.
Store the Pear Butter
- Once the pear butter has reached your desired thickness, remove it from the heat and let it cool slightly.
- Transfer the pear butter to a clean jar and seal tightly. Store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks or process in a water bath for longer shelf life.
