Ingredients

Wet Ingredients
  • 3 medium ripe bananas mashed
  • cup unsalted butter melted and slightly cooled
  • 1 large egg room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Dry Ingredients
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour sifted
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup brown sugar packed
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Method

Prepare the Oven and Pan
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). This ensures that the bread bakes evenly.
  2. Grease a 9x5 inch loaf pan with butter or non-stick spray to prevent sticking.
Mix Wet Ingredients
  1. In a large mixing bowl, mash the ripe bananas with a fork until smooth. Ripe bananas are sweeter and provide moisture.
  2. Add the melted butter to the mashed bananas and mix until combined.
  3. Stir in the egg and vanilla extract until well incorporated.
Combine Dry Ingredients
  1. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until evenly mixed.
Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients
  1. Pour the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients. Stir gently with a spatula until just combined. Do not overmix; a few lumps are okay.
  2. Fold in the chocolate chips, ensuring they are evenly distributed.
Bake the Bread
  1. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan, smoothing the top with a spatula.
  2. Bake in the preheated oven for 55-65 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Cool and Serve
  1. Once baked, remove the banana bread from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 10 minutes.
  2. Transfer the bread to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing. This helps maintain its moisture.

Notes

For best results, use very ripe bananas with brown spots. You can also add nuts for extra crunch if desired.
